Triboluminescence

sound performance, 2012

"Do all things, when fully experienced, also sound forth?" D. Ihde, Listening and Voice

What is the sound of physical separation? Often this distancing is sounded out by streams of voices, by blips and clicks of a computer screen or cell phone, letting us know those who are absent are present. They form a language to communicate comfort.

This live performance remixes a series of Skype conversations and musical exchanges taken over a few months with Halim El Dabh, exploring language and belonging through the process of virtual composing.

An edited version of this performance can be heard on the (a(version)s) compilation here.
