Auto-Synthetic Phenomenon

2012, 2 channel sound installation, 25'

Auto-Synthetic Phenomena is an homage to that ever-present instrument that dfies definition - the synthesizer - and to the most popular way Beirut consumes the amplified grittiness of its compositions - the automobile. This installation explores the spacial qualities inherent to music, specifically the spacial qualities of car stereos (experienced internally as well as externally - outside the car) and the different audio landscapes that shaabi synthesizer music occupies (in cars, dance halls, etc), the affect of ambience on a listening experience. A simple square is outlined in the middle of the room as a designated sweet spot calculated at a distance from the speakers for which the audio is callibrated. The listener is envited to explore the sonic environment of the room. Depending where they stand, and at which height, they experience the sound differently.
